Greetings!
Scott is beginning to think that God put employees on
earth to frustrate managers.
Scott isn't a bad guy. It's just that the job he holds is
just more complex than ever before and more difficult
than he ever imagined.
Thar he blows
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The more Scott gets stressed, the more he snaps at
his co-workers and reverts to micromanagement. He is
beginning to wear people down both physically and
psychologically.
Everything we do anymore needs to be done
yesterday. Every project is a rush and we never have
enough time to accomplish everything that we want to
do anymore. Deadlines are always too close to the
start of every project and there is an endless flood of
new projects starting.
Can you train adaptability?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To improve productivity, employees and managers need
to become more adaptable. Can adaptability be taught
or do individuals just have it - or they don't?
You can lead a horse to water, but will he drink?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An executive coach was retained to help Scott. The
first thing that Scott learned was that he needed to
listen to his employees and colleagues.
Scott was a quick learner - intellectually. But improving
emotional intelligence takes time and a conscious effort
to practice and improve. Scott didn't have time for all
this soft stuff. Scott's the guy who calls his doctor to
call in a prescription without a visit because he never
has time to make an appointment.
Does it require a miracle for an employee to change?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adapting behaviors to deal effectively with changing
situations and relationships requires a willingness and
an ability on the part of the employee.
Flexibility is the willingness to change and versatility is
the ability to change. The good news is that
employees can become more adaptable. Both flexibility
and versatility can be learned but they both require a
conscious effort and time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
performance. The situational interview is 54% accurate
and job matching is correct 3 out of 4 times.
CriteriaOne provides all the tools you need to build
a "whole person approach" for selection AND
development of employees, including a behavioral and
competency based interview.
First time in 2003! CriteriaOne is a two-day workshop
that has been described as "outstanding". Consultants,
owners and HR specialists from PA to CA attended this
program in 2002. There's still time for you to register for
the March 14-15, 2003 workshop to be held in
Lancaster, PA. Register early and save $150!
