Greetings!
Happy New Year!

On behalf of
everyone at Success Performance Solutions and The CriteriaOne Group, we
wish you the Happiest New Year and a very Prosperous one. Thank you for
helping make 2002 a record year.
Flat Tires Don't Roll Well; Flat Employees Don't Perform
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking for
well-rounded employees? You might want to check out how well they hold up
under pressure. Just like a tire, sometimes employees go flat just when
you need them to keep rolling the most.
But a flat tire isn't really flat, is it? It's really round except for
the part touching the ground. But without a wheel rim to support it, it
doesn't hold up at under even the slightest pressure.
Almost round tires don't roll
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A flat tire isn't
very functional even though 80 percent or more of the tire is round. Not
only does this 20 percent flat area stop one tire from rolling smoothly
but it totally immobilizes the car.
People are no different. Everyday businesses hire and promote employees
into positions that look 80 percent okay and only after they are in the
job do they discover the leaks. A flat tire doesn't ride smoothly. An
individual with potential but one "flat" side is not only not very useful
nor effective but he can bring teamwork and productivity to a screeching
halt.
Did you ever have a flat tire when it was convenient?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To continue this
analogy one step further, a flat tire on a slow moving vehicle is
inconvenient. A blow-out while traveling at full speed is downright
dangerous. Flat tires always happen at the most inconvenient times.
How many times does a team ride along with one of its members losing
air and everyone else is working a little harder to compensate for him.
All of a sudden, just when you need him most - Bang! He blows and brings
the entire project down with him.
Better than tire-kicking and more accurate, too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Managers are
generally good tire-kickers but seldom do they take the time or invest the
resources to check out the slow leaks. They hire and promote what appear
to be well-rounded individuals, only to discover their tire goes flat when
pressure is applied and they need to roll.
When hiring or evaluating employees, it is not only important to look
at job fit but to ask, how can they fail at the job? Personality tests
like TotalView(tm) help both employees and managers recognize performance
strengths as well as how the well-rounded employee will hold up under
stress.

- but you need to act fast. If you or
your managers have been heard saying:
1. If I want something done right, I need to do it myself. 2. What do I
have to do around here for anyone to pay attention to what I'm saying? 3.
We wouldn't have problems getting our work done if our employees would
just use their heads to think. 4. If other people would only get out of my
way and let me do my job, I could get my work done. 5. I'm a pretty good
manager considering the quality of employees I have to work with. 6. What
was wrong with the way we used to do it? 7. Employees today just don't
have the same work ethic as when I started here. 8. Why do I need to say
"thank you"? Isn't paying them to do their jobs good enough? If you
answered "yes", it's not too late to register for Managing to Excel 2003
beginning January 8, 2003 at The Lancaster Chamber. Call us today at
